1968 Fender Telecaster David Knopfler - Setting me up - 226254

Here there is another amazing guitar from David, that was included in the sale I managed for him. This is his old 1968 Fender Telecaster Thinline. This is truly an amazing sounding one, and a special guitar for itself. This one is a late 1968 thinline, with factory Kluson double line tuners, that still has all its original parts on it. Neck has its original finish, while David wanted the then natural colored body to be painted black, to his likes from the time. Who did the paint, the amazing blues musician Steve Phillips Steve Phillips & The Rough Diamonds (this is a fantastic nitro refinish by the way, naturally aged that looks and feels amazing)did also the black paint to his Strat, and filled the typical "F" hole, probably in order to avoid feedback problems while playing live (this is my guess). The incredible thing is that he removed the last "pearloid" layer of the original pick guard, so the black layer you see Is infact the "middle" original layer of the factory pick guard! this amazing guitar has a very comfortable neck, and is the one they used to play in "open tuning", usually with a capo, and can be seen used on stage by both David and Mark, that actually used this guitar to record "Setting me up" lead parts in the very first debut record from Dire Straits. The "Custom" decal has been applied over the original finish, probably by Steve, when he did the "black" custom job on the guitar.
