PORTFOLIO - 1960's

1962 Fender Stratocaster David Knopfler - 80740

Life can be amazing. The very first real song I've ever studied on the electric guitar, with my teacher Gege Picollo, back in 1998, was the rhythm part of "Down to the waterline". That rhythm part was recorded with this very same stratocaster here, a fantastic one from spring of 1962, slab board. One day I talked to mr. David Knopfler and I ended up helping him selling his two prized guitars from the early days of "Dire Straits". I really can't describe what I've felt when I met its longtime owner in person. He's not only a great musician and composer, but a fantastic, truly special person. Regarding his amazing Strat, David says that it has that "something" that makes it special. Well, while he was strumming it in front of us everybody in the room have been able to actually feel that energy, that "something". Was the secret in the wood? was the secret in the pickups? There's probably no "secret" at all, apart from the fact that this instrument has been loved and played, and it inspired a great musician for 40 years. Here there are a few pictures of this amazing guitar. Yes, if you're wondering, this is THAT guitar you hear at the very beginning of a certain "Sultans Of Swing" song. And many many others song From Dire Straits and David's personal solo career. This one has been used also by his brother Mark, in the early days live on stage on some occasions.

Do you have a vintage guitar left in the dust? What are you waiting for?
